In October 2024, ELABORATOR conducted two online KPI (Key Performance Indicator) workshops to assist its Lighthouse cities in refining their evaluation strategies. Held on 8-9 October, these sessions provided a platform for cities to align their intervention goals with measurable KPIs, building on the groundwork laid by the project’s earlier deliverable, D2.2 Evaluation Plans.
KPIs workshops and their purpose
The KPIs workshops were structured meetings aimed at gathering more specific and detailed information from the Lighthouse cities regarding their evaluation strategies and intentions. While the previous deliverable, D2.2 Evaluation Plans, had already identified a range of KPIs within a broader Living Lab context, these workshops sought to dive deeper into this information. The goal was to confirm whether the KPIs listed in D2.2 were aligned with the specific intervention goals of each Lighthouse city and to expand on this information at a more granular level. Specifically, the workshops aimed to identify and specify the exact KPIs that would be tracked for each intervention carried out in each Lighthouse city. By doing so, the workshops ensured that the cities were not only committed to their evaluation frameworks but also fully aware of how each KPI would apply to their respective interventions. Furthermore, this detailed information was crucial for the completion of D3.4 Interventions Definitions, which focuses on defining the interventions clearly and linking them to the relevant KPIs.
How will this help the cities in their interventions
The detailed outcomes from the KPIs workshops will play a critical role in assisting each Lighthouse city to effectively monitor the progress and impact of their interventions. By having a clear and structured framework that outlines which specific KPIs need to be tracked for each intervention, cities will be able to ensure that their activities are in full compliance with the requirements of WP5. This systematic approach provides cities with a clear roadmap for evaluation, enabling them to measure the success of their interventions in a consistent and measurable way. In turn, this clarity helps cities ensure that they are on track with their commitments, facilitates real-time adjustments if necessary, and ultimately contributes to the overall success of the project.
How will the results from the workshops inform future work in supporting the cities' interventions?
The data and insights gathered from the KPIs workshops will be synthesized into a comprehensive table for each city, which will be presented in deliverable D3.4. This table will organize each intervention in the columns, while the rows will list the relevant KPIs associated with each intervention. This structure will provide a clear and concise overview, making it easy to see which KPIs are being tracked for each specific intervention in the cities. This document will not only serve as a practical tool for the cities to guide their monitoring efforts but also as a critical reference for future support efforts from the ELABORATOR team. By having a clear view of the KPIs linked to each intervention, the team will be better equipped to provide tailored support, monitor progress, and ensure that each city's interventions align with the overarching project goals.
Next steps
The next steps involve compiling all the information collected from the workshops and organizing it in a format that is easy to understand and use. This will be done on a city-by-city basis, ensuring that each city has a clear and practical document that outlines the interventions and the corresponding KPIs. This document will serve as the foundation for ongoing and future evaluation efforts at the intervention level. Additionally, close coordination with WP4 will be necessary to ensure that the data unification process is aligned, ensuring that all cities’ data are comparable and standardized. By aligning the outputs of the workshops with WP4's efforts, the project can guarantee consistency across all cities, facilitating more effective cross-city comparisons and insights.
